Young Entrepreneur Crowned Runner Up in Search for UK's Best Young Entrepreneur
22-year-old Chester-based entrepreneur named runner-up in PC World Business competition for well-thought-out original business plan.
HERTFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND, November 17, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Twenty-two-year-old Thomas Farquhar has been named a runner-up of PC World Business's Generation Y Not competition to find Britain's best young entrepreneur. Farquhar who lives in Chester, was named a runner up for starting Easy MCS, a company which specialises in awarding micro-generation certification scheme (MCS) accreditation and providing training and advice to renewable energy installers (eg installers of solar panels, air and ground heat pumps). Farquhar has won a GBP100 voucher to use at PC World Business to get any IT equipment he may need to help make his business run more smoothly.
Before starting his company in January this year, Farquhar was working as a renewable energy device installer. The idea for Easy MCS came about after he noticed that there was a shortage of installers in the industry, as gaining the relevant qualification was a complicated process. He took advantage of this gap in the market and set up the company which has almost doubled its revenue from GBP450,000 to GBP850,000 so far this year.
The judges certainly recognised the young entrepreneurial talent in Farquhar. He impressed them with his ability to spot a business opportunity and turn it into a company that is now the biggest renewable support provider in the UK.
Jamie Murray Wells, founder, Glasses Direct and lead Generation Y Not? judge, said: "Having started a business while at university, I'm a massive advocate for helping young entrepreneurs realise their ambitions and set up on their own businesses. Young entrepreneurs represent the next generation of successful businesses, so competitions like Generation Y Not? Help them take their firms to the next level."
The competition, which asked entrants to tweet their business plan, was judged by a panel of eight successful young entrepreneurs.
